Many young individuals now consider "landing a civil service job" in a township as their top priority in life, even to the extent of giving up opportunities to pursue advanced studies at esteemed institutions such as the University of Hong Kong. This is not an isolated occurrence but rather a subtle manifestation of the prevailing trends and concerns of our era.
“港大硕士录取通知书”与“乡镇公务员录取公示名单”在当下青年眼中孰轻孰重？天平在悄然倾斜。名校光环渐褪，学历神话消解，公务员考试报名人数连年攀升，不少年轻人选择将“上岸”乡镇作为人生头等大事，甚至为此放弃港大等名校深造机会——这并非孤立事件，而是一曲时代症候的低吟。

However, as the "civil service craze" engulfs the entire society, its costs warrant profound reflection. An excessive influx of talent into the public sector will erode the vitality of social innovation and market efficiency. If high-potential young individuals who could otherwise scale the peaks of academia and explore uncharted territories flock to grassroots administrative positions, we stand to lose not only individual potential but also the collective momentum that propels society towards the future. Moreover, if grassroots positions are perceived merely as "safe havens" rather than as platforms for dedicated service, it may lead to a mismatch between the efficacy of talent and the original intent of these roles.
然而，当“公务员热”灼烧整个社会，其代价亦值得深省。人才资源过度流向体制，将削弱社会创新活力与市场效率。那些本可攀登学术高峰、探索未知领域的高潜力青年若纷纷涌向基层事务性岗位，我们失去的不仅是个体的可能性，更是社会面向未来的整体动能。同时，基层岗位若被仅视为“避风港”而非服务热土，也可能导致人才效能与岗位初衷的错位。
In the torrent of the times, the rational choices made by individuals deserve understanding and respect. However, a healthy society should strive to broaden the avenues available, enabling a University of Hong Kong masters graduate to pursue their academic dreams and a grassroots civil servant to realize the value of their practical endeavors, each finding their rightful place. When young people can both gaze at the stars with aspiration and keep their feet firmly on the ground with pragmatism, and when individuals can pursue their dreams with peace of mind both within and outside the public sector—that is when we truly achieve the ideal of "making the best use of every persons talents."
在时代洪流中，个体的理性选择值得理解与尊重。但一个健康的社会，应努力拓宽赛道，让港大硕士的学术梦想与基层公务员的实干价值各得其所。当青年既能仰望星空，又能脚踏实地，当体制内外皆可安心追梦——这才是对“人尽其才”的真正抵达。
While the warmth of the "iron rice bowl" (a metaphor for a secure job with lifelong tenure) is indeed precious, if a society only aspires to the highest goal of "avoiding being shattered" (metaphorically, ensuring stability without risk), how can the young people in its embrace truly stand tall with their heads held high? Its akin to donning a bulletproof vest that may shield from immediate harm but restricts the freedom to soar and explore.
“铁饭碗”的暖意固然可贵，然而一个社会若只以“不摔碎”为最高追求，那么它怀抱中的青年们，又怎样能够真正昂首挺立？
